1. Introduction

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps ModularSpace has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business or supply chains.

ModularSpace is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships. We are dedicated to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere within our organisation or in any of our supply chains.

2. Our Business

ModularSpace is a manufacturer and supplier of modular and portable buildings, based in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. We design, manufacture, deliver, and install modular buildings for clients across the United Kingdom, serving sectors including education, healthcare, government, commercial, and industrial.

Our supply chain includes raw material suppliers, component manufacturers, subcontractors, transport and logistics providers, and professional service providers.

3. Our Commitment

We are committed to ensuring there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. We recognise that modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights, taking various forms including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, and human trafficking.

Our approach reflects our values and is consistent with our obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We expect the same high standards from all our contractors, suppliers, and other business partners.

4. Our Policies

We operate a number of internal policies to ensure we are conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner. These include:

  • Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy: Sets out our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and the steps we take to prevent it.
  • Recruitment Policy: We carry out robust checks on all employees, including right-to-work documentation, to safeguard against human trafficking.
  • Whistleblowing Policy: We encourage all employees, customers, and other stakeholders to report any concerns related to our business or supply chains without fear of retaliation.
  • Supplier Code of Conduct: Communicates our expectations to suppliers, including compliance with the Modern Slavery Act.
  • Equal Opportunities Policy: Ensures fair treatment of all employees regardless of background.

5. Due Diligence in Our Supply Chain

We undertake due diligence when considering new suppliers and regularly review our existing suppliers. Our due diligence processes include:

  • Evaluating potential suppliers before they enter our supply chain, including their labour practices and ethical standards.
  • Requiring suppliers to confirm compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 as part of our procurement process.
  • Including modern slavery clauses in our contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Conducting periodic audits and reviews of key suppliers.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with suppliers to ensure transparency and early identification of potential issues.

6. Risk Assessment

We assess the risk of modern slavery occurring in our business and supply chains by considering:

  • Country risk: The geographical locations of our suppliers and whether they operate in regions with higher prevalence of modern slavery.
  • Sector risk: The nature of the industries from which we source, particularly construction and manufacturing where labour exploitation risks are recognised.
  • Transaction risk: The complexity and transparency of our supply chains and relationships.
  • Business partnership risk: Agencies, subcontractors, and labour providers involved in our operations.

We consider the construction and manufacturing sectors to carry an inherent risk of modern slavery. As such, we pay particular attention to labour sourcing practices within these areas.

7. Training and Awareness

We provide training and awareness programmes to ensure our employees understand:

  • The nature and indicators of modern slavery.
  • Their responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
  • How to report concerns through our internal reporting mechanisms.
  • The company's policies and procedures in relation to modern slavery.

Senior management and procurement staff receive enhanced training on identifying modern slavery risks within supply chains.

8. Reporting Concerns

We encourage anyone who has concerns about modern slavery in any part of our business or supply chain to report them. Reports can be made through:

All reports will be treated in confidence and investigated promptly. We are committed to ensuring that no one suffers any detrimental treatment as a result of reporting in good faith their suspicion that modern slavery is or may be taking place.

9. Measuring Effectiveness

We measure the effectiveness of our approach through:

  • The number and nature of reports received through our whistleblowing channels.
  • The number of supplier audits and assessments completed.
  • Training completion rates across the organisation.
  • Feedback from employees and suppliers on awareness and practices.

10. Approval

This statement has been approved by the Board of Directors of ModularSpace and will be reviewed and updated annually.
